The Ecoepicenter is established due to efforts of the staff of Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, thus scientific methods and scientifically justified data form the base of the Ecocenter’s work. It serves both as a public and as a research center.
The plants, transplanted here from their natural habitats become subject of research of their adaptability, physiology, taxonomy and other. Also, being part of the Department of Conservation of Genetic Resources of Armenian Flora with the Seed Bank, the Ecoepicenter serves as an experimental plot for growing plants, which have been raised from seeds and using tissue culture method in the laboratories of the department. First of all the rare and threatened species of the local flora are targeted for these activities.
